Introduction #
Installing MT4 in portable mode can have benefits when setting up multiple MT4 instances making backups or migrating VPS. This can also enable you to set up things on your home PC and then copy everything into your VPS without the need to install things again.
Download MT4 or MT5 #
MT4 can be downloaded from the websites of any broker that offers accounts with that platform.
Do not attempt to download the MT4 platform the Metaquotes as that will download MT5 instead.
If you need to download MT4 you can use the link inside your MT4 broker user area.
MT5 can be downloaded from your broker website or directly from Metaquotes website.
How to install MT4 and MT5 in Portable Mode #
To do so you simply need to copy the full MT4 installation folder. This can be done by installing your MT4 directly on the desktop or any other folder or copying the contents from the whole MT4 or MT5 data folder.

Once you have copied that you can use the scripts we created to create the shortcuts with the /portable tag required to run MT4 as portable.
Simply run the scripts on the folder or directory where you have your MT4 install folders and use the CreateShourcutsHere script to automatically create the shortcuts for all MT4 installations you have in that folder.
For MT5 you need to use the CreateShourcutsHere64bit.bat file to create the shortcuts for all the MT5 installations you have in that folder.

You will need to run the script and then use the generated shortcuts to run MT4 from there so it uses the portable folder instead of the normal install folders.
